Hello folks. Happy Monday to you. I must confess. I am astounded by the deception in my church (stay tuned for this post). I am astounded by the lack of quality and ethical leadership in this country of ours. Two worlds seemingly spiraling out of control. I keep hearing, “We are all in this together” But step outside and it’s clear we are not all in this together.

People are out and about again. Many people are in the stores shopping without masks. A couple of days ago, my husband and I were at Walmart and we couldn’t help but notice that many customers were not wearing masks. I asked a Walmart associate, if they were enforcing masks. And the young woman, said they couldn’t force customers to wear masks. And other stores, are turning people away, if they do not have a mask. Some people attempt to practice social distancing, while others could care less, likewise with the masks.

I assume the Gov had his Strike Force work diligently and thoroughly on a best plan to reopen Texas. I can assume these experts had the safety of all Texans in mind when they devised their plans. Well, that’s what it said in the order. This plan had a timeline for essential and nonessential businesses. And though many would disagree – salons are a nonessential business-they are a luxury. The business itself is essential to the owners livelihood, but the business itself is not. I am sure most of the world has already heard that a woman in Dallas defied those orders and opened her salon and off course, was arrested for violating the governor’s orders. The woman had been open for business for a few days and was even ordered to close her doors, but she defied that order too. And mind you, the Gov did say in his order, that his order would supersede local orders. When I read that… I thought, oh my gosh those are “fighting words.” I got this off the CNN website. It’s just a little summary of the order.

Texas

Gov. Greg Abbott had ordered all Texans to stay home through April 30.

On May 5, he announced a reopening of certain businesses starting May 8.

Salons are allowed to open May 8, with restrictions such as one customer per stylist and 6 feet between stations and customers waiting. Masks are strongly recommended by not mandatory.

****Gyms and exercise facilities, non-essential manufacturing and business offices will be allowed to reopen May 18, with restrictions such as keeping capacity at 25% and ensuring social distancing.

All retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters, malls, museums, and libraries were permitted to reopen on Friday, May 1, but must limit their capacity to 25% of their listed occupancy.

I wonder what audience the Gov had in mind when he wrote this letter?!

By now, I do believe most of us have accepted that measures must be taken to protect not ourselves, but others. And if you take a trip anywhere, you will see that there are people out there that could less about protecting others. And then again, there are people that believe this is all one big scare created by Democrats and just refuse to allow them to gain any control.

Government establish laws, albeit emergency laws, but they carry no weight. Why did the city of Dallas allow this woman to operate her business for seven days? And it makes sense that emergency laws shouldn’t carry heavy sanctions. But, if you are going to establish emergency laws, they should be adhered to, not just blatantly ignored and then glorify the people that violate those laws. It feels a little like 1955. Is there a solution to this madness?  No, but what is happening is that these lawmakers are looking like court jesters. God appoints all leaders, so the Scriptures say. But remember when the people told Samuel to give them a king?

“But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day—with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods—so they are doing to you also. Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them.” 1 Sam 8:6-9

I sincerely applauded the Gov’s outstanding job during this pandemic in trying to deal with 254 counties. Texas is a big state and every corner is very different. The best move was to give every county the leeway to deal with this pandemic according to their needs. So, his recent actions left me terribly disappointed in his leadership.

As Americans, as voters we are accustomed to watching political parties battling for power and control by every available means. Social media sites are the frontlines as people shoot loaded insults at the enemy. And like in a physical battle, there is no mercy.  Everyone I know is engaged in this battle. There is no win-win here.

This is an election year. And we have been dragged into the REP/DEM war. What’s that term… collateral damage. Yup. That’s what many of us may look like – collateral damage. It’s a sad state of affairs. And this is just me – my opinion – looking out the window.

At this point, all I can do is pray for our leaders, because although Republicans consider themselves conservatives, Christians of sort…I am more convinced than ever that many  of these Rep’s just hide behind the cross. Their actions are highly motivated by their political bonds. Sad. But that is the human condition. And to think… experts say this is not over by a long shot – then again – it depends on which expert you listen to.

It may feel like a survival of the fittest situation – every man for himself, but we can still look to the heavens … because God is not finished. It really does not matter who believes they have total control because, if we believe in the God of the Bible – and we read our Bible – we know how the story ends. Sometimes God appoints leaders to drive home a message – to his people.

Hebrews 10:31 “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers… 2 Tim. 4:3

Romans 3:11 “There is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God.”

I’m Irma

Welcome to my little corner of the blog world. Here, I share my thoughts on Christianity, the things of God, and the ways He has shaped and guided my path through life. My journey with the Lord has been long and transformative, marked by moments of peace and joy and periods of uncertainty. I write, first and foremost, for myself—to process what the Lord so graciously reveals to me in Scripture. Sharing some of these truths has become a mission of sorts, via blogging. His word urges us to bear witness and encourage one another.

As I reflect on my own transformation, I can say that the church itself has transformed over the years and not necessarily for the good. I speak about my own experiences with the church. One lesson the Lord impressed upon me this year is that “truth is not always truth.” What do I mean by that? There have been times when I’ve shared a biblical insight, only to realize that other faithful believers interpret the same passage differently. In that instance, I find that the Lord reveals according to our understanding. When I share the need for a Damascus experience understandings diverged sharply. Believers that have been raised in the church do not feel that such an extreme experience is necessary for spiritual maturity. Our faith is truly shaped by our backgrounds. Spiritual journeys are not for everyone. This taught me that early socialization deeply colors our grasp of faith; what’s true for me may not resonate in the same way for someone else.

Similarly, lately I considered how “ignorance of Scripture was its own blessing,” I remembered my early walk with Christ. I had a blind faith. I knew little of doctrine or debate. I trusted the pastor. In those days, my faith and trust in the church and church leaders was simple—I accepted what was taught from the pulpit without questioning. I did not have the knowledge needed to question any teaching. There was a peace in not knowing all the controversies or complexities. As I grew and studied the scriptures, and did some additional research, as the Lord gave understanding, I found myself questioning everything I had been taught. I did not question my faith, or the existence of God. That ignorance, while limiting, protected me from confusion and doubt, allowing me to rest in childlike faith.

The church itself has seen many changes over the decades. Self-proclaimed prophets have introduced new doctrines, some bordering on heresy, while believers wrestle with their flesh and what it means to follow Christ in a society with so many freedoms. I remember a time, more than thirty years ago, when I trusted every word spoken in church. Now, I understand how easy it is to accept teachings that stray from biblical truth. The Scriptures warned us this would happen in the last days.

2 Timothy 4:2-4 (NKJV) “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

Current events—like the 2024 Election—have exposed deep flaws in American Christianity. Yet, through it all, Scripture assures me that God is sovereign. No wall built by human hands can withstand His judgment; no scheme crafted in darkness escapes His light. These lessons have become more real to me as I look back over my journals, filled with stories of God’s faithfulness during trials, tribulations and abundant grace. By sharing I hope those the Lord leads here will desire to seek God wholeheartedly, to find comfort knowing that He is always at work in our lives—often in ways we never considered.
