Heaven is waiting by Rich Mullins

Rich Mullins – Heaven Is Waiting
“I don’t need no woman to kiss me
And I don’t need no man to stand by my side
I don’t need to slake my thirst with whiskey
Don’t need to shuffle cards to pass the time
‘Cause the stars are bright and silvery
And with the dry ache of a lone coyote’s whine
My Savior’s calling and I’m listening
Time to saddle up my pony and ride

‘Cause heaven is waiting
Just past the horizon
Just over the mesas
Across the great divide
And faith is blazing
This trail that I ride on up this mountain
I’m prayin’ I have the strength to climb

I ain’t looking for no seven golden cities
But I know there’s a fortune somewhere to find
There’s a peace that I hear whisperin’ through the pinyons
And a love that’s taller than the ponderosa pines

And heaven is waiting
Just past the horizon
Just over the mesas
Across the great divide
And faith is blazing
This trail that I ride on up this mountain
I’m prayin’ I have the strength to climb

So don’t ask for no lengthy explanation
When there ain’t no reason quite wild enough
No words could be as tender
It’s greater than the fears that we imagine
More than the warmth that we remember
It’s always just beyond the pass
And I must go

‘Cause heaven is waiting
Just past the horizon
Just over the mesas
Across the great divide
And faith is blazing
This trail that I ride on up this mountain
I’m prayin’ I have the strength to climb

Oh heaven is waiting
Oh heaven is waiting
Heaven is waiting”

Rich Mullins had a way with words. He could turn simple words, simple phrases into powerful, awe inspiring lyrics. I love that he didn’t care for accolades, choosing to give God the glory in all things, the glory deserving of an awesome Creator. He wanted everyone to be God’s. I think the lesson was that to be God’s required surrendering to the love of God.

Allowing ourselves to be loved by the living God, by a force we can’t see, can’t feel, can’t hear, isn’t easy. I don’t think it was meant to be easy. One has to be born into love and that love has to nurtured daily to thrive, but being human – we can also reject that love, especially when things go wrong.

Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son. Jonah had to spend time in the belly of a fish. Job had to lose everything. Daniel was thrown into a fiery furnace. I can’t even imagine what went through their minds. These men couldn’t deny the living God. It was a long time ago. Our world has changed umpteen times over. But humans are human. As we grow colder, many of us don’t know how to love, how to show love, or how to allow others to love us. How can we accept, or believe that there is a God that loves us, just because He does?

There is so much false love in the world. It’s a lustful love, a selfish love. So many faithful followers of some religion or another have died at the hands of someone representing God and His love. We must be watchful not to follow the Koolaid man, who offers sweet drink for the thirsty, but it’s contents are so bad for you. We must be confident in our faith, that we are children of the one true God, and that we can hear His voice, that He does know us and that we follow Him when He call us.

The rain if falling now. We need the rain in this dry and thirsty land. Praise God for the rain! Let the love of God rain down on you today.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27 (NKJV) ”

“Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever. – Psalm 136:26”

Heaven is waiting…

Be Blessed.
