    That Narrow Road…

    Matthew 7:13-14 The Narrow and Wide Gates

    “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

    True believers in Christ, the chosen are all on the same narrow path. There is little room for error in our walk, not because we don’t fail God many times, but because God never fails us. The road is narrow, yet not congested as one might expect. There is ample room for error, but God’s mercies are new everyday.

    Lamentations 3:22-23 “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”

    The narrow path, praise God has a definite end, a wonderful end. But the narrow road is a road that leads you through a process of transformation. When you enter in, you enter in with your own world view that seems to resemble that of God, and you take with you your ideas of what God wants from you, but once you’re on the road, the Lord begins to unravel His will for your life. And the struggle to surrender begins. As carnal minded beings we are not quick at giving up those things that satisfy our innate physical, psychological and emotional needs. It’s not an easy road, there are bumps on the road, twists and turns, potholes, hills and valleys you must traverse and all all sorts of storms that you must endure, but the Lord is gracious in guiding you through the rough terrain. I guarantee you by the time you are half way through your journey, you will not be the same person.

    Psalm 66:10 “For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs. You have caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.

    You will have a divine perspective on life. You will have the Spirit of God reassuring you to fear not, for the Lord is with you. Nevertheless, you have moments of doubt and fear, but the Lord is quick to comfort. The journey is long and arduous depending on how much baggage you brought along.

    We are all dying, not just in the flesh, the true believer is also slowly putting to death the fleshly desires that so easily ensnare and draw the children of God away from the things of Him. Only God can transform, but only if we accept His Son. The narrow road is otherwise blocked. We cannot change ourselves, we cannot renew our mind, or change our heart in our own power to gain access to God, or by doing a 12 step program that addresses only the carnality of man. God must first call you, then you must go through the blood of the Lamb if you want to know God.

    And when you have started this process of spiritual transformation, the Lord will reveal Himself, and He will reveal many things in His word. The Lord will use people to reach you, but their messages will only lead you back to His word. And during this process, you will be more attuned to the state of the spirit man and you will judge, but it’s OK. That’s part of our humanity to judge, even Jonah the prophet, dealt with this issue. As true believers we know full well that the Lord is gracious and forgiving when we repent of our sinful ways. But we would rather God to slay the wicked…to destroy the abominations that pervert His name. Yes, we think this way, because we get fed up with the evil in this world and we just want it to go away, but God has a plan. And we cannot understand His ways. It is easier for us, as believers to judge one another, to rely on our own self-righteousness than to trust God that He is working all things according to His perfect will.

    We must all have the last word. We must all be right and everyone else is just wrong. We must act on the side of caution rather than to trust in God’s sovereignty. On the narrow road, you learn to surrender your will, your thoughts, your carnality, your world view, for God’s sovereignty. And when the Lord gets you to where He can use you, you realize the narrow path is longer than you could have imagined. And then the Lord gives you understanding as to why the narrow road is not always a popular road and why many Christians prefer the wider road. They have no vision for the things of God.

    These believers live for the here and now. They want to be like Martha, busy, busy, busy, judging others for not doing. They want their treasures on earth. Their desire is for the accolades of man and God. See all I do for you Lord? Is there anything wrong with that?

    If, as Christians we are to be united in the Christ, why is there a narrow road and a wide road? The two with totally different destinations.

    All I hear is…

    Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’”

    Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

    Then as Paul said, we too shall be able to say…”I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

    Be blessed.

  • God's mercies are new everyday. What an awesome God we serve!
    Lamentations 3:22-23 “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” What an awesome God we serve!

    Psalm 147 Praise the Lord!

    For it is good to sing praises to our God;
    For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.

    2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
    He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.
    3 He heals the brokenhearted
    And binds up their wounds.
    4 He counts the number of the stars;
    He calls them all by name.
    5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
    His understanding is infinite.
    6 The Lord lifts up the humble;
    He casts the wicked down to the ground.

    7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
    Sing praises on the harp to our God,
    8 Who covers the heavens with clouds,
    Who prepares rain for the earth,
    Who makes grass to grow on the mountains.
    9 He gives to the beast its food,
    And to the young ravens that cry.

    10 He does not delight in the strength of the horse;
    He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.
    11 The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him,
    In those who hope in His mercy.

    12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!
    Praise your God, O Zion!
    13 For He has strengthened the bars of your gates;
    He has blessed your children within you.
    14 He makes peace in your borders,
    And fills you with the finest wheat.

    15 He sends out His command to the earth;
    His word runs very swiftly.
    16 He gives snow like wool;
    He scatters the frost like ashes;
    17 He casts out His hail like morsels;
    Who can stand before His cold?
    18 He sends out His word and melts them;
    He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow.

    19 He declares His word to Jacob,
    His statutes and His judgments to Israel.
    20 He has not dealt thus with any nation;
    And as for His judgments, they have not known them.

    Praise the Lord! Today, and everyday and forever.

    ABOUT JOEL OSTEEN: I usually don’t comment on this stuff but I feel I need to speak up. For some reason many credible church leaders are finding the need to dissect Joel Osteen as a speaker and even his credibility as a Christian. Even going after his wife and dissecting her words by the phrase as if they’re prosecutors and she’s on a murder trial. Folks this has got to stop. Joel is one of us. He is a God ordained bridge between the mainstream world and the church and we really need to protect our bridge. He’s a pastor. He’s not an evangelist. Though he does offer prayers for salvation, he doesn’t have to in order to fulfill his call. We have to see him for everything he is instead of terrorizing him for everything he’s not. He can not say everything we want him to say. But if we keep him in place he creates a hunger in people to go to their local churches and hear “the rest of the story”. The Bible says Some are called to reap, some to water and some to sow seeds. Joel is a world class seed sower. Who, by the way, is not afraid to water and reap. So let’s back off this key representative in the mainstream world. Satan loves it when we partner with him and destroy our own leaders. God has a seed sower for every generation. Wether it’s Norman Vincent Peale or Robert Shuller or Joel Osteen. We support our troops in the military, now lets support our troops in the church. Joel Osteen is one of our finest soldiers and he needs our support. Can I hear an Amen ?

    This statement is awfully disturbing. I know I said I would not comment on this mess with the Osteen’s, but it has yet to die down. I thought I would follow with this…people are defending the Osteen’s character, their ministry, their sincerity, their abilities to bring others to Christ. Where is God? Where is Jesus? People seem more concerned with the audacity of fellow Christians passing judgment on the great and mighty Osteen than on Word of God and rightly dividing the Word. And they are doing the same thing in passing judgment…

    2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”PicsArt_1410802722882

    I am amazed at how many Christians are using the “don’t judge” card. And the real truth is this…Only God knows the heart of any man…we don’t…so if we defend a messenger of God, we better make doubly sure that the messenger is indeed sent by God. We are to know the true believers by their fruit. Well…sometimes that can be a bit tricky…if you do not read the scriptures. Without knowledge of the Word of God..without reading the Word and having God reveal it to you, a person can pretty much believe anything that sounds like truth. I mean, we humans do the same in many other areas, not just with the things of God. Some people are easily ensnared.

    This is not about the Osteen’s or any other false teacher, preacher, pastor or teaching. This is about Christians…no.. this is about people desperately seeking ” …” and finding “…” fill in the blanks.

    2 Corinthians 3:15-18 “But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

    There seems to be a lot of conversion, but very little in the way of transformation…and all of us can recognize transformation.

    2 Timothy 3 “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

    But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance,  persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

    All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

    Luke 17  “Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sin
