Tonight, two candidates vying for the Presidency of the most powerful nation in the world will take the stage to defend their position. Americans will vote for one or the other. On Nov. 5, I will vote for the one that best matches my Christian ideal.

The best of two Evils

As a Christian woman, a woman of faith, a woman that seeks God, selecting candidates for office has always been about choosing the best of two evils. If I believed that God had sent one over the other, I would be wide open to demonic manipulation. What I do accept is that God would appoint a leader for a time, to accomplish His will, be it for the good of His people, or for the punishment of His people because of their disobedience and their failure to turn their heart back to Him. And no leader can turn the heart of man back to God. Another Trump presidency would not accomplish this. Would he create more chaos? Yes. But I also believe that he will create chaos even if he does not win. That I believe. But what does that say about the character of the man? Spiritual discernment comes from the Lord. God has always dealt harshly with His disobedient children. And He never changes. In our sinful state, without Jesus Christ, we are powerless to reconcile ourselves to our Maker. So, praise God!, that we have Jesus Christ as an intermediary between Himself and man.

Vice President Harris may not have all the right answers. She may be too liberal, but her character and her spirit are representative of my Christian ideal. I believe that all leaders are appointed by God for His purpose. I do not know if she believes as I, but I do now that she has shown compassion, empathy, and integrity. Is it show? At least she puts for the effort to be a leader of integrity. In my opinion, all politicians are corrupt. But even my opinion is healthy, because it is ok to have a healthy distrust of elected officials.

This land has never been fair, or equal. My parents were part of the Repatriation because they looked like Mexicans. Both were American born. When WWII broke out, my dad was in Mexico trying to bring life to a desolate land, he received a draft notice. He left everything and returned to defend a nation that wanted him out. In my city there is still a lot of segregation. Will a new President change that? Probably not. The Scripture says,

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV)

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Vice President Harris has shown more of these characteristics than Donald Trump. If Donald Trump has done anything, he has caused chaos and division. He has assaulted the Office of the Presidency. He has assaulted the innocent, the fragile, and anyone that disagrees with his rants. Some voters find his character charismatic. They find it refreshing. I find it regressive. I cannot blame anyone’s Christian beliefs for their fascination with this man. The Scriptures teach us how easily humans create idols.

Many Americans complain about the economy, but high prices do not stop anyone from spending. People complain about illegal immigration but how many Americans actually come in contact with illegal immigrants. Growing up in South Texas, I grew up with illegals all around and they were no more dangerous than our neighbors. As a Christian believer, the end times is real. It plays out every day. What we are experiencing today is only going to get worse. That Scriptures speak to today. No leader is going to prevent the prophesies that God has spoken for this world. The entire world is already condemned. What Scripture tells us that? Who is not, do you know? We should be in constant prayer.

So, would I vote for Vice President Harris? That is a big resounding, yes. If I have to give Caesar what is Caesar‘s, if I have to vote for the best of two evils I choose to support the candidate that best matches my Christian ideal. What individuals do, is on them. We will all answer for the deeds done in the flesh. I have fellow Christians that openly support the rants of Trump and I find it disturbing. It feels like we are reading two different Bibles. Lies, rants, exaggerations, sensationalism, conspiracy theories, are tactics used by the enemies of God. I will give unto God what is God’s, my heart.

For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. 1 Corinthians 14:33 NKJV

All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being. 1 Corinthians 10:24 NKJV

If Christians were doing what Jesus commanded them to do, our society would not be in such a chaotic state, but even that is under God’s control. Disobedience begets chaos. If any Christian is suffering it is not because of American economics, or any laws that are established for the benefit of all Americans. I know Christians that will not ask for social assistance, not even SSI for a disabled child. They would rather have their children live in a cold home, because they cannot afford to pay the electric bill and their pride prevents them from asking for utility assistance. Human PRIDE is ugly. Likely, there is disobedience, or God is building faith, character, and shaping a person into the man or woman of God that will bring God all the glory. When we face adversity God is working. We may not like the suffering while we are going through it, but God does not allow the suffering to go on forever. This is not something that people easily accept.

When we engage in the affairs of this world, we fail to recognize that our battles are not against flesh and blood.

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:16-20 NKJV

Let those who have ears, hear. God have mercy on us.

I’m Irma

Welcome to my little corner of the blog world. Here, I share my thoughts on Christianity, the things of God, and the ways He has shaped and guided my path through life. My journey with the Lord has been long and transformative, marked by moments of peace and joy and periods of uncertainty. I write, first and foremost, for myself—to process what the Lord so graciously reveals to me in Scripture. Sharing some of these truths has become a mission of sorts, via blogging. His word urges us to bear witness and encourage one another.

As I reflect on my own transformation, I can say that the church itself has transformed over the years and not necessarily for the good. I speak about my own experiences with the church. One lesson the Lord impressed upon me this year is that “truth is not always truth.” What do I mean by that? There have been times when I’ve shared a biblical insight, only to realize that other faithful believers interpret the same passage differently. In that instance, I find that the Lord reveals according to our understanding. When I share the need for a Damascus experience understandings diverged sharply. Believers that have been raised in the church do not feel that such an extreme experience is necessary for spiritual maturity. Our faith is truly shaped by our backgrounds. Spiritual journeys are not for everyone. This taught me that early socialization deeply colors our grasp of faith; what’s true for me may not resonate in the same way for someone else.

Similarly, lately I considered how “ignorance of Scripture was its own blessing,” I remembered my early walk with Christ. I had a blind faith. I knew little of doctrine or debate. I trusted the pastor. In those days, my faith and trust in the church and church leaders was simple—I accepted what was taught from the pulpit without questioning. I did not have the knowledge needed to question any teaching. There was a peace in not knowing all the controversies or complexities. As I grew and studied the scriptures, and did some additional research, as the Lord gave understanding, I found myself questioning everything I had been taught. I did not question my faith, or the existence of God. That ignorance, while limiting, protected me from confusion and doubt, allowing me to rest in childlike faith.

The church itself has seen many changes over the decades. Self-proclaimed prophets have introduced new doctrines, some bordering on heresy, while believers wrestle with their flesh and what it means to follow Christ in a society with so many freedoms. I remember a time, more than thirty years ago, when I trusted every word spoken in church. Now, I understand how easy it is to accept teachings that stray from biblical truth. The Scriptures warned us this would happen in the last days.

2 Timothy 4:2-4 (NKJV) “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

Current events—like the 2024 Election—have exposed deep flaws in American Christianity. Yet, through it all, Scripture assures me that God is sovereign. No wall built by human hands can withstand His judgment; no scheme crafted in darkness escapes His light. These lessons have become more real to me as I look back over my journals, filled with stories of God’s faithfulness during trials, tribulations and abundant grace. By sharing I hope those the Lord leads here will desire to seek God wholeheartedly, to find comfort knowing that He is always at work in our lives—often in ways we never considered.
